Four Blocks Evacuated After Gas Line Breaks

American Energy Coalition - August 4th, 2009

Rochester, Minn., emergency responders evacuated about four city blocks after a construction crew struck a nearby gas line, according to an account by KAAL TV. Police blocked off the intersection of 7th Street and 11th Avenue Northwest after the gas accident. Authorities said the gas line was about 6 inches underground and they were working to contain the leak and limit access because of the large amount of gas involved. "Anytime we have any type of natural gas leak it is a dangerous situation, this is a little bit more heightened because of the high pressure line and the amount of volume of gas we've got coming out of it," said Fire Marshal Vance Swisher.
