Selling a Home with Bioheat® Fuel?

As a real estate professional, it’s your job to know what’s in the best interest of homebuyers and sellers. They expect you to know everything about everything - from the attic to the basement. Sellers will want to know what they can do to add value to their property, and buyers will look to you for advice about how they can turn that house into the home of their dreams.

Home heating is one of the largest ongoing expenses a homeowner faces, and it’s in your best interest to have the real facts about heating oil, Bioheat® fuel, electrification, fossil gas and other fuels.

We’re here to help you close more deals and to let you know how today’s Bioheat® fuel and a local renewable liquid fuel retailer can help you do just that.

Not to heat your whole home! Heat pumps are expensive and don’t work as well once the temperature gets near freezing. Because they recycle so often in cold weather, you will also need a backup heating system. Most heat pumps are installed just for a single room or home addition, or for air conditioning! Instead, talk to your Bioheat® fuel retailer about upgrading an older system to new, more efficient liquid-fueled heating equipment and get more heating while producing fewer greenhouse gas emissions.

Depending on the size of your home, it could cost you anywhere from $18,500 to $42,000, when you realize you will probably need two or three heat pumps plus a new water heater, will have to upgrade your electric panel, and may need to make other modifications to maintain the comfort level you prefer.1

In a word, no. The current electric infrastructure is not broad enough to meet the current demand for electricity, which is why, whenever there’s an expected cold snap, virtually every electric utility and distribution operation sends out requests to their clients to lower their thermostats and conserve energy.

Stick with Bioheat® fuel. Most of the country’s electric power is generated by gas- or coal-powered generation plants, not renewable energy. These plants use 500 million tons of coal each year, and in the Northeast alone, produce more than 24 million tons of carbon. Bioheat® fuel is made with renewable biodiesel and immediately reduces your carbon emissions. The clean biodiesel is produced from recycled cooking oils, rendered animal fats, or natural plant and vegetable oils. In a few years, you’ll be able to use 100% biodiesel in your heating equipment to bring your carbon emissions down as low as possible. In fact, some homes already are!

Call your local Bioheat® fuel dealer! Most of these neighborhood, “Main Street” businesses offer 24-hour emergency service for all types of heating systems: Bioheat® fuel, fossil gas and electric.

The best way to save on energy bills is to use less energy. A new Bioheat® system can cut your fuel needs by approximately 20%, and there are tax credits, local rebates and low-cost financing to make them easier to afford. Your local company probably has a list of easy, low-cost conservation tips on their website, as well.

When your buyers have questions, you’ll have all the answers. If you have more questions, just contact the local heating company – their name and number should be on a label next to the emergency switch or on the heating equipment!
